Healthy Eating - Cooking Techniques For A Healthy Lifestyle In A Modern World

The different techniques for cooking make cooking a lot more fun and interesting, but they also play an important role in healthy eating. Healthy eating cooking can help to- reduce fat content in meats and other fatty foods- protect valuable nutrients found within some foods- improve the digestion of certain hard to digest foods- improve or strengthen the flavour of the foods we eat-destroy harmful bacteria and toxins which may cause infection and disease A core part of weight loss involves healthy cooking. Today there are several popular techniques for cooking, but not all are healthy. Some of the common healthy eating cooking techniques are in fact early forms of cooking but have since been adapted for a modern society. Below are some popular techniques for a healthy lifestyle in our modern world:Baking is one of the most versatile techniques for healthy cooking. It can be used to make dry dishes or stews. It is commonly used for breads, pastries, lean meat, seafood, poultry, vegetables and even fruits. The food is placed in an oven proof pan or dish and is cooked by the surrounding dry air. When baking, food may be covered or left uncovered and cooked with or without additional cooking oils or juices.Braising is a technique that involves placing food in a pan on top of the heated stove and allowing the food to turn brown before adding water (or stock) and covering it to cook slowly.Grilling is a dry heat cooking technique which involves the food being placed on a grill rack which is placed on top of a bed of burning charcoal (or gas- heated rocks). With the food directly exposed to the heat, it sweats and drips the excess fat away. Grilling is normally done outdoors.Broiling, also like grilling, is a dry heat technique. The food is placed onto a broiler rack, which is in turn placed in the oven, below the heat element. Broiling also exposes food directly to the heat, allowing it to sweat and drip off the excess fat.Poaching is a delicate technique for cooking easy to cook foods such as eggs and even fish. It involves placing the food in water (or other juices) and allowing it to simmer on the stove until tender and cooked. The food often retains its original shape.Roasting is similar to baking but requires higher temperatures. Foods can be roasted in the oven on either a baking sheet or roasting pan. When roasting fatty foods, a rack is placed inside the roasting pan to allow the fat to drip. On the other hand, non- fatty foods may require oil or water sprinkled over them to keep them from drying out.Sauteing is a very quick cooking technique, suitable for small or thin pieces of food. The food is placed into a pan and allowed to cook on the stove using its natural juices and little, if any, additional water or oil.Steaming is probably the simplest technique. It involves placing the food in a perforated (basket-like) container which is then suspended above boiling water (or stock). The food is cooked by the rising steam and absorbs the flavour of the steam.Boiling is also another simple healthy cooking technique. It involves the food being immersed into water, which is then allowed to heat and bubble over until the food is tender. It's commonly used to cook rice, potatoes and other starchy foods.Stir Frying is a very popular technique used in Asia. This cooking technique is best for small pieces of food of uniform size. These pieces of food are placed on a stove in a large non-stick frying pan known as a "wok"; and quickly stirred in small amounts of oil until cooked.
